A 5m coiled EV cable does not provide 5 metres of straight-line reach. The 5 metres refers to the total linear length of cable used to form the coil.

For normal everyday charging, this cable provides approximately 1.8–2 metres of comfortable usable reach, making it best suited to situations where your wallbox or charging point is relatively close to the vehicle.

The advantage is that when the cable isn't being stretched, the coil naturally retracts and keeps most of the cable compact and off the ground.

We don't recommend repeatedly pulling a coiled cable to its absolute maximum extension, as excessive stretching can eventually affect its ability to return neatly to its original shape.

It depends on whether maximum reach or tidier cable management matters more to you.

A straight 5m charging cable provides close to its full length for reaching between the charge point and vehicle. A 5m coiled cable is designed to remain compact, providing around 1.8–2m of comfortable working reach while automatically recoiling when the tension is released.

The coiled design is particularly useful for garages, driveways and regularly used home chargers where the car parks relatively close to the charge point. It helps prevent excess cable lying on the ground, getting dirty or creating unnecessary clutter.

If you genuinely need several metres of reach between the charger and vehicle, choose a longer coiled cable or a straight charging cable instead.

Yes. The coiled design doesn't reduce the rated charging performance of the cable.

This cable supports 32A single-phase AC charging up to 7.6kW and is also compatible with 16A charging.

Your actual charging speed is determined by the charge point, the vehicle's onboard AC charger and the available electrical supply, rather than whether the charging cable is straight or coiled.

It can also be connected to a three-phase Type 2 charge point, but because this is a single-phase cable, it will only use one phase and will not provide 11kW or 22kW three-phase charging.

A coiled charging cable is particularly useful when your EV regularly parks in roughly the same position close to your wallbox.

Instead of several metres of loose cable resting on the driveway, the coil naturally contracts when the cable isn't under tension. This helps keep excess cable off the ground, reduces tangles and keeps the charging area tidier.

This 5m version is therefore a good choice for short-range home charging installations where you don't need the reach of a long straight cable but still want 32A / 7.6kW charging capability.
